MARTIN WINDEBANK
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Martin Windebank is a Scottish-born recording and performance artist. His music channels the complexities of the human experience, and gains inspiration from the vastness of the universe. With a soul-stirring voice, masterful guitar skills, and love of electronic experimentation, Martin’s compositions transcend genre boundaries, offering listeners an alternative blend of folk, rock, electronic, and classical influences.

Growing up in the rural west of Scotland, Martin found inspiration in the ever-changing light on the landscapes of his surroundings. From an early age, he displayed a natural affinity for music, drawn to the ethereal soundscapes of artists like Vangelis, Ennio Morricone, and the eclectic rhythms of Talking Heads. His musical journey began with the discovery of an electronic keyboard at a friend's house. This began an exploration that would shape his artistic identity for years to come.

As a teenager, Martins musical horizons continued to expand as he became impassioned by the classical guitar and immersed himself in the works of iconic folk artists and classical composers. Simultaneously, he developed a deep love for electronic music, exploring genres ranging from techno and house to drum and bass and jungle. His eclectic tastes and diverse influences laid the foundation for a rich and multifaceted approach to music-making.

In the early 2000s, Martin ventured into the underground music scene of Bordeaux, France, where he honed his skills as a DJ.  He cultivated a reputation for pushing the boundaries of genre, earning the respect of peers and the wider scene.

In 2010, Martin returned to Scotland, where he immersed himself in the vibrant music scene of Glasgow. Here found a new creative community, hosting open mics and collaborating with bands such as The Girobabies, Jackal Trades and Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5.  He also worked to create a record label called ‘Renegade Masters Records’ with his longtime friend Mc Soom T.  Each collaboration further enriched his artistic vision.

Despite his years of musical exploration and experimentation, Martin kept much of his work hidden away, sharing it only with a select few. However, undertaking a master's course at the University of West of Scotland Ayr served as a catalyst for change, motivating him to step out of the shadows and share his music with the world.

Now, with a newfound sense of purpose and determination, Martin is poised to make his mark on the music landscape. His debut single, "For Mother Nature," is a poignant testament to his reverence for the natural world and his commitment to using music as a vehicle for positive change. With a promising future ahead, Martin Windebank invites listeners to join him on a journey of sonic exploration and self-discovery, as he continues to push the boundaries of his artistry and leave an indelible mark on the world of music.
